What is Trauma? Trauma is emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, death, rape or a natural disaster.
The three main types are:
Acute: results from a single incident of trauma
Chronic:: results from repeated and prolonged such as domestic abuse or violence
Complex: results from exposure to varied and multiple traumatic events. e.g., Exposure to racism,
discrimination, poverty, marginalization, sexual abuse, captivity and isolation
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? PTSD is a disorder in which a person has difficulty recovering after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event: e.g... such as a murder or brutal assault, explosion or crash. It is mental and emotional., causing extreme levels of panic and distress which disrupts activities of daily living.
The relationship of health risk behavior and disease in adulthood to the breadth of exposure to childhood emotional, physical, and or sexual abuse and household dysfunction during childhood has been proven through research. The Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) Study conclusions were: Findings of a strong graded relationship between the breadth of exposure to abuse or household dysfunction during childhood and multiple risk factors for several of the leading causes of deaths in adults. In the beginning of the Journey counseling sessions are held privately with a licensed clinical practitioner. We adhere to best practices, back by research. Further along in the Journey the participant is introduced to a revolutionary group "round table discussion". These sessions are hosted by LPC Counselors including university alumni and from across the country with real life struggles and experiences with victorious endings
